Women's Basketball falls to Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team were upended by Mary Washington, 71-47, Wednesday evening at the William M. Anderson Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mary Washington got the scoreboard started with a layup by Ashley Martin a minute into the contest. Salisbury responded with a bucket of their own as Hailey Ader knocked down a jumper after an assist by Kayla Nieberlein.
  • The Eagles went on a nine-point run over the next two minutes, with Abby Plaugher adding points for the Sea Gulls to stall the Mary Washington run.
  • The second quarter witnessed Mary Washington extend their lead, but Tori Rumbaugh provided support for Salisbury with a couple of threes. Sym Deloatch cut into the Mary Washington lead with a pair of free throws right before halftime.
  • In the third quarter the Sea Gulls kept the deficit from growing as they kept pace with the Eagles.
  • Nicole Miller provided valuable points for Salisbury in the final quarter, but the deficit was too large for the Sea Gulls to overcome as Mary Washington kept pace with Salisbury's offense.
 
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Nicole Miller led the Sea Gulls with 15 points, going 4-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-6 from beyond the arc, grabbed five rebounds, and added two assists.
  • Tori Rumbaugh provided 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers while also hitting two free throws and snagging five rebounds.
  • Hailey Ader grabbed a team-high six rebounds while also scoring seven points.
  • The Sea Gulls went 13-of-45 overall, 5-of-17 from three, and 16-of-27 at the free-throw line.
 
MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES
  • Jordan Carpenter scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting while also leading the Eagles with 12 rebounds.
  • Megan Baxter added 13 points and two assists while going 6-of-10 from the floor.
  • Sydney Sherman provided 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, an assist, and 5 rebounds for Mary Washington.
  • The Eagles hit 27-of-58 from the floor, 1-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 16-of-25 at the charity stripe.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls are back on the road on Saturday, Jan. 27, as they head to Newport News, Va. to take on Christopher Newport.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
