Women’s Basketball clipped by Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team stayed in stride with the Christopher Newport Captains but were unable to overcome the hosts as the Captains defeated the Sea Gulls, 71-61, Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury looked to keep pace with Christopher Newport at the start of the second quarter as Miller and Jen Juhring both scored to tie the game at 26. The Captains then controlled the rest of the half, building an eight-point lead heading into the break.
  • The third quarter saw the Captains create their largest lead of the game as they were out in front of the Sea Gulls by 15 points. Ader, Nieberlein, and Miller were able to bring the deficit down to nine points at the end of the quarter for Salisbury.
  • In the final quarter Christopher Newport extended their lead up to 12 momentarily before the Sea Gulls were able to bring it back down to nine. A free throw by Hailey Kellogg with 19 seconds left in the contest gave the Captains a 10-point lead which held to the final buzzer.
