Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Career day from Oates falls short in Men’s Basketball’s loss to Marymount

MARYMOUNT, Va. – A banner day from senior forward Jordan Oates was not enough to lift the Salisbury University men's basketball team in its 82-65 defeat to the Marymount University Saints on Wednesday evening at Converse Family Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Oates kept the game close in the opening minutes, scoring six points to help offset the 10-point effort from the Saints in the first five minutes of the contest. After trading baskets with the Sea Gulls, Marymount put together a 10-3 run to open a 22-11 advantage with just over 10 minutes left in the period.
  • The hosts outscored Salisbury 13-10 over the next five and a half minutes, opening a 35-21 lead with five minutes remaining in the stanza. Oates joined forces with Calvin Thomas and Brendan Davis to outpace Marymount 10-8 to close the half, setting the halftime margin at 43-31.
  • A nine-point effort from Oates along with baskets from Davis, Reed Rebstock, and Buddah Spencer helped Salisbury keep pace with the Saints in the opening nine minutes of the second frame, outscoring Marymount 15-14 in the span, 57-46. After nearly four scoreless minutes, the hosts scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 66-48 advantage with just over five minutes to play.
  • Salisbury held serve with the Saints, outscoring Marymount 17-16 in the final five minutes, but the Sea Gulls could not find a late rally, falling 82-65.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Jordan Oates shattered his career-high with 34 points on a crisp 14-of-21 shooting night. Oates's individual scoring outburst is the highest total since Gary Briddell '22 dropped 35 points against Marietta on Dec. 28, 2019. The senior also has seven blocks across his last three games and 24 on the season.
  • Brendan Davis tallied nine points and a game-high eight assists against the Saints.
