Men’s Soccer battles for Senior Day draw with CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – A critical free-kick finish by Gavin Miller helped the Sea Gulls earn a 1-1 draw against Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) rival Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

The Sea Gulls (5-6-3) saw stellar play out of senior net-minder Josh Wendel in the first half. The veteran made a trio of saves to help keep CNU off the scoreboard, maintaining the scoreless tie at the break.

Miller's set-piece heroics came in the 62nd minute following a yellow card assessed to CNU, bending his shot past the opposing keeper to give his side the lead. The Captains (5-4-4) responded not quite nine minutes later when Colin Skwirut's low shot took an unfortunate bounce into the goal mouth to level the tides.

Each keeper made a pair of saves in the final 18 minutes to maintain the 1-1 tie.
