YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped a tough road battle on Wednesday evening, falling to the York (Pa.) Spartans by a 1-0 final score on Graham Field.
The Sea Gulls (5-4-1) conceded a pair of early Spartan shots before putting together a solid stretch of play, earning three corners and firing a pair of attempts in a nine-minute span. Both shots missed the mark as York maintained the scoreless tie.
The Spartans (7-0-4) would record the next three shots through the 24th minute, forcing a save by
Clif Nehman. Salisbury fired back, putting two shots on goal and hitting the crossbar in an offensive outburst lasting just under a minute.
York landed one more shot on goal in the opening period, but Nehman handled the chance to protect the goose eggs through 45 minutes.
Control of the second half's early minutes paid dividends for York, who claimed five of the first six shots of the period including a goal scored by Brayden Safley to establish a 1-0 advantage. The Sea Gulls would fire six more shots across the final 27 minutes but tested the Spartan net-minder just once with a chance that was turned away in the 79th minute, setting the final score at 1-0.
