Men’s Soccer stumbles against No. 1 Mary Washington

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team stumbled in its first meeting with a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) foe of the season, letting in four goals in a 4-0 loss against the top-ranked Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

The Sea Gulls (5-5-1) applied early pressure, recording the first three shots and demanding a save from the opposing keeper in the third minute. Mary Washington endured the rally and responded with their first goal in the 15th minute when Carter Berg linked with Sammy Amorose, building a 1-0 advantage.

The Eagles (11-0-1) found their second score in the 17th minute as Gabe Francesconi tallied the helper on a Julian Schmugge finish. Amorose found the onion bag for the second time in the 36th minute to set the halftime score at 3-0.

Salisbury hit the woodwork twice and forced three saves in the second half, but the Eagle backline kept a cover on the goal through the second half. UMW's Diego Guzman set the final score in the 89th minute, 4-0.
