Women’s Soccer matches Randolph-Macon in 1-1 draw

ASHLAND, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw in the team's road match against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Wednesday afternoon at Nunnally Field.

The Sea Gulls (3-3-6) recorded the first shot of the contest when Zakiyyah McMillan had her attempt blocked in the fifth minute. The hosts responded with three straight attempts, the third of which demanded a team save from Salisbury to keep the game level.

The Yellow Jackets (5-1-4) withstood three on-target attempts from the Sea Gulls – two from Katy Poltrack and one from Alex Jankowski – to keep the match scoreless through the 13th minute. Just five minutes later, Lauren Brokaw connected with Lora Bertram to net the first goal of the contest and establish a 1-0 RMC lead.

Salisbury responded in kind in the 24th minute when Ashley Pantano aided Ava Wheeler's efforts to bring the match even, 1-1. The teams combined to put just one shot on goal through the rest of the period, bringing the game to intermission knotted up.

Both teams brought the intensity in the second half, with the sides combined for 18 attempts in the final 45 minutes. Each keeper was tasked with making a save in the first five minutes and change, with Wheeler forcing the Randolph-Macon stop.

Late pressure from the Yellow Jackets sprung Hayle Foreman into action, who made three saves in the final 20 minutes to keep the game even through the 90th minute.
