SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team used goals from
Ava Wheeler and
Ashley Pantano to soar back into the win column, claiming a 2-1 victory over the Stevenson University Mustangs on Tuesday evening at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.
The Sea Gulls (4-3-6) loaded the cannons early, firing eight shots across the first 15 minutes. Stevenson responded with three shots over the next three minutes – one forcing a
Hayle Foreman save, one hitting the post, and the third finding the onion bag to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
Salisbury needed just 23 seconds to pen a reply.
Kristen Ging threaded a through-ball to a cutting Wheeler, who tapped in the finish to level the scales. Not 10 minutes later, the Sea Gulls struck again as Pantano just snuck a feed from
Sidney Ziegler in the corner into the goal mouth to widen the lead, 2-0.
The Mustangs (2-6-4) were outshot 7-1 across the remainder of the first period and 17-5 in the second half. Stevenson's Alison Halstead made five saves in the second half, while Foreman made two to protect the team's fourth victory of 2024.
