Men’s Soccer earns hard-fought draw with No. 22 Johns Hopkins

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team put together an impressive showing against the 22nd-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Wednesday evening, fighting for a 1-1 draw at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

The first half was quiet with the sides combining to put just four shots on goal. The Sea Gulls (5-5-2) turned away the visitors' best build-up in the 33rd minute when Clif Nehman turned away a Blue Jay attempt, leading to a corner kick that required a team save from Tristan Brannock to keep the match scoreless.

The Blue Jays (7-2-3) pressed the hosts early in the second half, demanding a trio of saves by Nehman in the opening 30 minutes including a full-extension airborne stop to deny a top-corner attempt. Salisbury answered in kind in the 76th minute as Cooper Santos followed up a saved shot with a pinpoint pass to Liam Pierce, who guided the ball across the front of the goal mouth and into the corner for a late advantage, 1-0.

Salisbury nearly scored a second in the 78th minute, but the Sea Gulls were ruled offside to nullify the chance. Johns Hopkins responded in the 81st minute when Francis Meyer guided a free kick to safety, tying the match at one.
