WACO, TEX. - Salisbury head coach,
Sherman Wood, earns his second AFCA Division III Region 2 Coach of the Year honors with his first coming in 2011. Wood will be honored on Monday, January 13, during the 2025 AFCA Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association's five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, and NAIA. The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.
The 2024 season has been one of the best seasons in coach Wood's career. The 10-0 season marks the second time coach Wood has completed an undefeated year. The programs winningest coach has led his team to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances including clinching a first round bye in this years playoffs.
Including this year, Wood has led the program to a 191-79 overall record in his 26 year tenure. This includes 11 total conference championships. The Sea Gulls will host the winner of King's College (Pa.) and Ursinus College on Nov. 30th, with a time to be announced. The first-round match up between King's and Ursinus is set for Nov. 23rd from Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Wood is one of five Division III Region Coaches of the Year, and the five are now eligible to be named the AFCA's National Coach of the Year, which will be announced at the AFCA National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. in early January.
