SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program soared past St. Mary's (Md.) 66-57 Wednesday night inside Maggs Gymnasium.
After giving up the first basket of the game, the Sea Gulls never trailed again. Salisbury started off strong in the first quarter of action out scoring St. Mary's 17-8 which helped propel them to victory. The Sea Gulls shot 50 percent in the quarter while holding the Seahawks to just 27 percent.
After a back an forth second quarter, Salisbury headed into the halftime break leading 27-19. The Sea Gulls were able to with stand the Seahawks second half run relying on the scoring of
Kayla Nieberlein.
Nieberlein tallied a career-high 19 points for the game with 13 of those coming in the second half.
Salsibury kept the hot shooting going in the third shooting 64 percent from the field. Along with the 19 points,
Nieberlein added four rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
For the game, SU shot 43 percent with 34 points in the paint and 18 points off turnovers.
Abby Plaugher was second on the team in scoring with 14 shooting 60 percent with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 24th at Penn State Abington with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
