HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Salisbury women's basketball program powered past Westminster College (Pa.) 68-45 Monday night at the Juniata College Holiday Tournament inside Memorial Gymnasium.
The Sea Gulls used a dominant first quarter to win the game, outscoring Westminster 18-5. The SU defense held Westminster to 16.7 percent shooting from the field in the first quarter while also forcing seven turnovers.
The second and third quarters had more of a back-and-forth pace with the Sea Gulls taking a 32-18 lead into halftime and clinging to that 14-point lead heading into the final quarter of action.
The Salisbury defense once again showed up to close the game holding Westminster to 11.1 percent shooting from the field in the fourth while the Sea Gulls shot 60 percent from behind the arc.
SU never once trailed in the game and racked up 28 points off the bench compared to just 18 from Westminster. Salisbury had three players in double-digits earning 26 points in the paint.

Abby Plaugher led the offense shooting 50 percent from the field with 19 points and six rebounds.

Kayla Nieberlein scored 13 points with six rebounds shooting 60 percent from the field.

The Sea Gulls will play host Juniata in the College Holiday Tournament tomorrow on New Year's Eve at 3 p.m.
