Ader, Deloatch power Women’s Basketball through LBC, 81-62

LANCASTER, Pa. – Seniors Hailey Ader and Sym Deloatch combined for 33 points down low as the Salisbury University women's basketball team muscled its way to an 81-62 victory over the Lancaster Bible Chargers on Saturday afternoon at Horst Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow start by both teams, the Chargers opened up a seven-point lead at the 3:39 mark of the first quarter as Rachel Nolt's three-pointer made it 18-11 LBC.
  • Down 20-13 later in the period, the Sea Gulls mounted an 8-0 run to take the lead. Sym Deloatch hit one free throw, then a triple by Jen Juhring and two straight layups by Hailey Ader put SU up 21-20. Shelby Gard answered for LBC with a trey, giving the Chargers a 23-21 advantage after one.
  • Kayla Nieberlein opened the second quarter with a game-tying layup. After the teams traded a bucket each, SU netted six points in a row, capped by another Nieberlein layup to make it 31-25 Sea Gulls at the 5:52 mark.
  • LBC answered with a 12-2 surge to go up 37-33, but Salisbury countered with buckets by Ader and Abby Plaugher, tying things up at 37-37 at the half.
  • The teams boxed evenly through the first five minutes of the third quarter. Tied 47-47, Deloatch converted a three-point play and Plaugher poured in a layup to give SU a 52-47 lead, then after one LBC free throw Juhring and Deloatch sank layups to make it a 9-1 Sea Gull run and a 56-48 lead at the 3:44 mark.
  • Leading 58-52 two minutes later, SU put up five of the next six points to open up a 63-53 cushion. Natalie Wenger's two brought the Chargers back within 63-55 at the end of the third.
  • Salisbury clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter on the way to opening up a big lead. Juhring opened the scoring with a two, then Tori Rumbaugh drilled a three and Nicole Miller ran out a fastbreak layup on a feed from Rumbaugh. Plaugher's free throw at the 6:39 mark made it an 8-0 run and a 71-55 advantage.
  • The Chargers never got closer than 15 the rest of the way. A last-minute bucket by Cora Shafer and free throws by Miller gave SU an 81-62 margin of victory after an 18-7 fourth.
