No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse stifles No. 6 Gettysburg, 14-8

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team avenged its lone loss from the championship season in 2023 on Saturday afternoon, emerging from Sea Gull Stadium with a 14-8 victory over the sixth-ranked Gettysburg College Bullets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brice Bromwell got his big day started early, rolling right and firing top shelf to open the scoring with less than two minutes played. The Bullets responded with a pair of unassisted strikes to go ahead 2-1 with 6:30 left in the opening quarter.
  • Just over a minute later, Riley Strub found a cutting Jude Brown at the backdoor to tie the contest, 2-2. Both sides failed to find the netting across the remainder of the quarter, but a Gettysburg slashing penalty gave Salisbury an extra-man chance to begin the second period.
  • Salisbury needed just 15 seconds to capitalize on the infraction. Strub and Brown switched roles, with Brown dishing to Strub this time around to put the Sea Gulls back in front.
  • After having a shot saved by the Gettysburg keeper 50 seconds later, Jack Dowd scooped the miss and punched in the rebound to extend the lead to 4-2 just over a minute into the quarter.
  • The Bullets found a rhythm as the quarter continued, scoring three of the next four goals (interrupted by Dowd's second goal of the day) to drag the contest back to a deadlock, 5-5.
  • Salisbury penned a prompt response, ripping three goals in 39 seconds to plant what would blossom into a six-goal swing.
  • Bromwell wrangled a loose ball near the boundary and sprinted to the doorstep to dunk in his second goal of the day before Luke Nestor nutmegged the Gettysburg net-minder for his first finish. Blake Malamphy won the following faceoff and found nothing but green ahead of him, sprinting and dishing to Brown who netted the third goal to put the Sea Gulls up 8-5 at halftime.
  • Bromwell struck again less than 90 seconds into the third quarter, firing into the lower corner to widen the gap to four. Around two minutes later, Brown provided his weekly highlight, spinning through a pair of Bullets and firing to the far post to set the score at 10-5.
  • Ty Keaton and Joe Carozza joined the points column with just over nine minutes to go in the period as the former tucked a feed from the latter into the bottom corner to push the Sea Gull run to 6-0 and the lead to six, 11-5.
  • The Bullets fired back with a pair of goals to carve away at the deficit, trailing 11-7 heading into the final 15 minutes. Salisbury responded with a pair of finishes to begin the fourth, with Nestor dishing to Strub and Bromwell finding Brown for the tallies that returned the margin to six, 13-7.
  • Gettysburg tacked on one more goal before Bromwell tossed the ball into an open net to set the final score at 14-8.
