No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse stymies No. 11 Lynchburg, 13-8

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team earned another ranked victory on Saturday afternoon, swarming No. 11 University of Lynchburg Hornets in a 13-8 triumph at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Riley Strub needed just 38 seconds to get Salisbury on the board, wrapping around the cage before neatly tucking a look into the top corner. The Hornets penned their response two minutes later, tying the contest at 1-1 through three and a half minutes.
  • The back lines defended the cages for over six minutes before Jude Brown used a pick from Jack Dowd to free his path to the pipe, finishing top shelf against the Hornets net-minder for a 2-1 SU lead.
  • Lynchburg stung the Sea Gulls with a pair of scores to close the period, taking a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • Salisbury outscored their guests 4-2 in the second stanza, starting with a feed from Lucas Ingley that Dowd fired into an open net to yank the score back to a tie. Luke Nestor launched a missile of his own less than a minute later, picking up a man-up goal off the assist from Dowd to put the Sea Gulls back in front, 4-3.
  • After a Lynchburg goal deadlocked the affair once more, Charlie White dashed to the doorstep and dunked a shot between the keeper's legs and Dowd collected an unassisted strike to build a 6-4 advantage with 8:27 remaining in the half.
  • The Hornets scored in the final seconds to tighten the score at the break, 6-5.
  • SU surged in the third quarter, outscoring Lynchburg 6-1 in the frame. A quick transition feed from Brown to Brice Bromwell began the outburst.
  • Brown found a lurking John DeFazio on the next trip down, who buried the pole goal for the seventh score of his career and an 8-5 Sea Gull lead.
  • Lynchburg clawed one goal back before four unanswered Sea Gull scores to close the quarter. Strub tossed to Nestor, who shot a bouncer into the net for his second goal of the day before Strub logged a solo finish of his own to push the score to 10-6 with just over three minutes played.
  • Over eight minutes later, Brown distributed from behind the cage to Nestor, who deposited his third into the corner to break the quiet spell. Josh Sanchez rolled and fired in the final seconds of the period to extend Salisbury's advantage to 12-6 with 15 minutes remaining.
  • Bromwell's second score was sandwiched by two Hornet goals, but that was all the Salisbury defense surrendered in the fourth quarter en route to the 13-8 victory.
