CONCORD, N.C. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team launched into 2024 with a 29-6 victory over the Berry (Ga.) Vikings on Sunday afternoon at Randy Marion Field on the campus of the Cannon School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury found the webbing again three minutes later as Josh Sanchez connected with Riley Strub. Blake Malamphy's ensuing faceoff win led Salisbury to its fourth finish just eight seconds later as Joe Carozza set up Braden Glushakow in transition. Brown dished to Carozza on the next trip down to push the score to 5-0 with just over six minutes played.
  • Brown piled up his third assist of the quarter with 5:12 remaining, finding Dowd for his second man-up goal in the period. Charlie White scored off an assist from Sanchez, and Dowd fed Carozza to finish the eight-goal swing.

  • John DeFazio gave the attack a helping hand three minutes later, finding Strub for SU's 12th score of the day. Berry scored with five minutes remaining, but scores from Strub (assisted by Bromwell) and Malamphy (assisted by Brown) set the halftime margin at 14-3.
  • The Sea Gulls turned up the heat in the second half, putting up six goals in four minutes to begin the third quarter. Brown, Dowd, and Carozza powered the first three strikes before Bishop Barnes placed a pass from Carozza past the Vikings keeper. Nestor collected his second goal and Bromwell handed Strub a man-up score before Evan Huffman fired in the 20th goal.
  • Brown put away his final goal of the afternoon before Blake Epstein joined the ranks of Salisbury's scorers on the day. After Bromwell's third goal, Ty Keaton assisted Epstein on his second goal in less than three minutes. Lucas Ingley and Barnes each found finishes late in the quarter before a Vikings goal with 19 seconds left brought the score to 26-4 with 15 minutes remaining.
  • Jake McCarthy made the most of the fourth quarter's first faceoff, scooping the ground ball and firing in SU's 27th goal just eight seconds in. A minute later, Brayden Velasquez found Ryan Della with a numbers advantage to push the margin to 24.
