No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse handles SUNY Geneseo, 16-6

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team continued its unbeaten start to the season on Thursday evening, besting the SUNY Geneseo Knights by a 16-6 final at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Blake Malamphy penned an early statement to the Knights, winning the opening faceoff and dashing ahead before firing in the first goal of the night. Geneseo responded less than a minute later, tying the contest at 1-1 through the first 90 seconds.
  • Two minutes later, the Salisbury attack unfurled an eight-goal barrage spanning nearly 15 minutes. Jude Brown got the party started, catching his matchup napping and firing a short arm shot into the upper corner.
  • Brice Bromwell and Riley Strub tallied solo strikes over the ensuing three minutes before Strub dished to Brown for the team's fifth goal of the quarter with just under five and a half minutes remaining.
  • Charlie White entered the scoring column just over a minute later before Bromwell's second of the contest brought the quarter to a close, the Sea Gulls leading 7-1.
  • After three scoreless minutes, John DeFazio turned a clear into a clinic, sprinting in transition before feeding Ty Keaton for the first score of the stanza. Luke Nestor needed just 27 seconds to add another, slinging a pass from Bromwell to give SU an 8-1 lead through 19 minutes.
  • Following a Geneseo goal, Jack Dowd shook to his left and bounced an attempt through the legs of the Knight net-minder. The Knights added another, setting the score at 10-3 with just under eight minutes left in the half.
  • Strub got the goal back for Salisbury two minutes later, roping a feed from Josh Sanchez onto the top shelf. Salisbury added one more in peculiar fashion as Keaton nudged a pass from Brown into the net in the closing seconds, putting Salisbury ahead 12-3 at the intermission.
  • Brown powered the Sea Gull attack in the third, adding an unassisted goal in the first three minutes before finding Dowd for a man-up goal less than 30 seconds later. The Knights swiped their fourth goal 50 seconds after that, returning the margin to 10 at 14-4 with four minutes played.
  • The defenses laid claim to the next eight minutes, with both ends pitching shutouts in the span. Luke Nestor snapped the spell, scoring Salisbury's 15th to take the affair into the fourth quarter with a 15-4 score.
  • Geneseo scored a pair in the final quarter before Bromwell's third goal locked in the final score, 16-6.
