No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse tops Washington (Md.) in 56th “War on the Shore”, 12-7

SALISBURY, Md. – The Charles B. Clark Cup will reside in Salisbury for the 10th straight time as the top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team prevailed over Washington (Md.) in the 56th installment of the War on the Shore between the two schools, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury opened the contest with a four-goal run, beginning when Luke Nestor connected with Jack Dowd just over four minutes into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Nestor scored an unassisted strike of his own less than two minutes later before Riley Strub followed suit 32 seconds later.
  • Nestor collected his third point of the opening stanza with just under eight minutes left, aiding a Brice Bromwell goal to establish the 4-0 lead. Josh Sanchez parried Washington's first goal with a solo score of his own to send Salisbury to the second quarter in front by four, 5-1.
  • Dowd needed just 80 seconds to score in the second quarter, preceding a link between Bromwell and Strub that widened the lead to 7-1 with just over 12 minutes left in the half.
  • The scoring quieted for nearly eight minutes before the Shoremen fired a pair of finishes to constrict the lead to four. Dowd netted his third goal of the game with just six seconds to go, sending the hosts to the locker room ahead 8-3.
  • Defense reigned supreme in the third quarter as the teams combined to force 10 turnovers and allow just two goals, both in the final minute. The Shoremen found their fourth finish with 16 minutes to play in the game, while Bromwell and Strub connected once again to return the margin to five heading to the final 15.
  • A trio of Washington goals to begin the fourth were interrupted by a Bromwell unassisted score, setting the score at 10-7 with just under six minutes to play. Salisbury found the gas pedal in the closing minutes as Ty Keaton (helped by Nestor) and Dowd netted goals to secure the Charles B. Clark Cup, 12-7.
