No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse silences St. Mary’s (Md.), 18-5

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team extended its unbeaten streak to 15 games on Tuesday evening, thumping the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.) by an 18-5 final at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After four quiet minutes to begin the affair, Jude Brown sent a helper to Jack Dowd to take an early lead. Ty Keaton aided Chris Wong 61 seconds later, putting the Sea Gulls ahead by two in the early going.
  • St. Mary's notched their first and only goal of the opening half with just under eight minutes left in the opening frame. A pair of solo strikes by Brown and an unassisted score for Luke Nestor took the battle into the second stanza with a 5-1 score.
  • Salisbury blanked the Seahawks while scoring six unanswered in the second quarter, beginning with Nestor's second goal of the night just 42 seconds in. Brice Bromwell set up Dowd's second strike before tallying his own score to widen the margin to seven with just under five minutes left in the half, 8-1.
  • Nestor added two more in the final minutes (the second aided by Dowd) and Brown called his own number with 95 seconds left to establish a 10-goal Salisbury advantage at the break, 11-1.
  • Brown and Nestor capitalized on a Seahawk penalty just 15 seconds into the frame, extending the margin to 11. Charlie White tallied a solo goal in response to the second St. Mary's score of the evening before the Seahawks added another, reining the gap in to 10 with 10:28 left in the third, 13-3.
  • Salisbury closed the quarter on a three-goal run, with Nestor and Dowd helping back-to-back goals by Keaton before Brown picked up his fourth goal with 8:25 left in the frame. Both defenses blanked their opposition, taking a 16-3 line into the final 15.
  • The Seahawks found their fourth goal with 9:24 left in the contest, but Bromwell linked with Keaton just seven seconds after the finish to return the margin to 13. The Seahawks added another with just under seven minutes to go, but Joey Halloran delivered a dime to Blake Epstein in the final 90 seconds to put a bow on the 18-5 victory.
