No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse wins 50th straight at home over Stockton, 27-4

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team extended its home winning streak to 50 games on Tuesday evening, clipping the Stockton University Ospreys by a 27-4 final inside Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls stamped the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) matchup early, outpacing the Ospreys 7-0 in the opening quarter. Riley Strub notched consecutive solo strikes in the first four minutes, putting the hosts ahead 2-0.
  • Nearly five scoreless minutes elapsed before the dam burst with just under seven minutes left in the quarter. Jack Dowd sent a helper to Jude Brown and Luke Nestor joined the scoring column 35 seconds later to push the lead to four.
  • Two minutes later, Strub aided Josh Sanchez for SU's fifth score of the frame. Brown connected with Strub after a penalty for a man-up finish and Dowd tallied an unassisted goal in the final minute to conclude the stanza, 7-0.
  • Stockton got on the board to begin the second 15, tightening the score to 7-1. Dowd fired another solo score with just under 12 minutes remaining to kick off a 3-0 Sea Gull run, with Brown and Strub joining forces and Brice Bromwell linking with Ty Keaton. When the dust settled, Salisbury toted a 10-1 advantage with 6:45 left in the half.
  • Nestor scored to parry Stockton's second goal, sending the contest to the break with an 11-2 score.
  • The Sea Gulls snatched another third quarter on Tuesday, outscoring Stockton 11-0 in the frame. Strub tallied a pair of scores in the first three minutes, the second helped by Nestor, to widen the gap to 11. Nestor fired a feed from Keaton less than a minute later before a pair of solo scores from Charlie White furthered the distance, 16-2.
  • Bromwell and Keaton logged unassisted tallies before Dowd buried an assist from Strub, giving the Sea Gulls a 19-2 lead with 8:23 to go in the period. Strub nabbed another goal, and Joey Halloran connected with Keaton before scoring in his own right to establish a 22-2 score heading to the final quarter.
  • After Stockton's third goal, Brady Mancha set up Ryan Della's second career score. Brayden Velasquez and Blake Epstein followed with individual efforts before Cristian Quesada logged his first career point, aiding Tanner Soudan's first career goal. The Ospreys scored their fourth and final tally with just over six minutes remaining, but Halloran dished to Epstein with just under four minutes left for the final nail, 27-4.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Riley Strub shattered his career-highs, setting new marks with seven goals and nine points. Strub put 81.8 percent of his shots on target, his second-best clip of the season, while scooping three ground balls and forcing two Osprey errors.
  • Jack Dowd, Luke Nestor, and Ty Keaton each netted four points with hat tricks and one assist. Keaton nabbed three ground balls in the win.
  • Jude Brown and Joey Halloran each totaled three points with one goal and two assists while both securing a pair of ground balls.
  • Charlie White and Blake Epstein netted braces against the Ospreys.
  • Seven other Sea Gulls scored on the evening.
  • Blake Malamphy went 9-for-16 on faceoffs, securing a team-high seven ground balls and causing one turnover. Mackenzie Moreland finished 9-for-15 at the X in relief, totaling four ground balls.
  • Simba Makawa logged his best showing since last year's title game, nabbing a career-high five ground balls while tying his career mark with a pair of forced miscues.
  • John DeFazio and Aidan Swartz each scooped four ground balls, with the former causing a pair of Osprey errors and the latter causing one turnover.
  • Nicholas Ransom improved to 31-0 in his collegiate career, making five saves across 41:17 in goal. Z.J. Shahin made one save across 7:02 in relief, while Matty Back logged 5:22 of action and Matt Sentowski totaled 6:19 between the pipes.
  • Tuesday's win extended Salisbury's victorious streak inside Sea Gull Stadium to 50 games and the team's overall streak to 31 contests.
STOCKTON GAME NOTES
  • Connor Albrecht led the Osprey offense with three points, scoring while adding two assists.
  • Hayden Smallwood, Alex DeLierre, and Ben Malicki all scored in the loss.
  • Tyler Horvath went 13-for-30 at the X, tying teammate Steven Woolery for the game-high with seven ground balls. Mike Cuzzola finished 2-for-5 in relief.
  • Brenden McSorley tallied three ground balls while forcing two Salisbury mistakes.
  • Colin Bernstein was tagged with the loss, making eight saves across 38:10 of action. Ben Blum, Conor France, Owen Haughan, and Will Kasica all appeared in relief between the pipes.

  • The Sea Gulls travel to face CLC rival and seventh-ranked Christopher Newport on Saturday, April 6 in Newport News, Va.
  • Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Jennings Family Stadium.
