No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse sinks No. 7 Captains, 18-12

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team improved to 15-1 in its last 16 meetings with Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) foe Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon, topping the seventh-ranked Captains by an 18-12 final score at Jennings Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After conceding a goal from the opening faceoff, the Sea Gulls rattled off six straight scores to take a commanding 6-1 lead through 12 minutes. Jack Dowd dished to Riley Strub for the first goal of the day before Brice Bromwell sandwiched a Luke Nestor goal with tallies of his own to establish a 4-1 advantage.
  • Bromwell logged his third point of the quarter, feeding Dowd for SU's fifth goal around the halfway point in the frame. Charlie White followed nearly four minutes later, slinging a solo strike that built the five-goal margin.
  • A pair of Captain goals narrowed the gap to three, 6-3, through 15 minutes. Salisbury stamped the second quarter, netting five of the six goals scored in the period.
  • Nestor's second started the Sea Gull run, while Brown dished to Dowd 35 seconds later and Blake Malamphy found a faceoff finish immediately after to push the gap to six through 19 minutes, 9-3.
  • With just under 10 minutes to go, Ty Keaton fed Dowd's third goal of the contest. Strub connected with Bromwell four minutes later before a late Captain score sent Salisbury to intermission in command, 11-4.
  • The CLC opponents traded goals to begin the second half. Brown and Bromwell connected for the first score of the third before Josh Sanchez and Keaton logged individual efforts to sandwich a CNU goal, 14-6.
  • The Captains added two more, narrowing the deficit to six with just under six minutes left in the stanza. Nestor and Dowd (aided by Bromwell) sandwiched a CNU tally, sending the contest to the final 15 minutes with a 16-9 score.
  • Brown logged his third assist on Strub's second goal before Bromwell nabbed his fifth goal to offset a trio of Captain scores, locking up the 18-12 final score.
