SALISBURY, Md. – Five members of the ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team were recognized as All-Region 5 honorees
by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and
D3baseball.com on Tuesday morning. Outfielders
Andrew Kell and
Tim Petrucelli were dubbed consensus All-Region First-Teamers, with Kell taking home D3baseball.com Region Player of the Year. First baseman
Danny Sheeler and second baseman
Kyle Brex earned slots on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Third Team, and catcher
Dylan Winebrenner made the D3baseball.com All-Region Third Team.
Â
Kell, a junior from Columbia, Md., swung his way into the starting lineup a couple weeks into the season and never looked back on the way to his first All-Region accolades. He slashed .444/.545/.718 with 47 runs, 17 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 48 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and a 1.263 OPS over 41 games (36 starts). Kell finishes the campaign ranking top-10 in single-season Sea Gull history in all three slash lines as well as doubles.
Â
Petrucelli, a graduate student from Delran, N.J., made his only year in a Sea Gull uniform count in a big way en route to earning his third set of All-Region awards and first consensus First Team nod. Starting all 44 games in right field, he slashed .373/.500/.729 with 51 runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a 1.229 OPS. Petrucelli finished one dinger short of tying the SU single-season home run record and also finishes ranked top-10 in slugging, doubles, total bases (121), and walks (40).
Â
Sheeler, a senior from Towson, Md., followed up his First-Team All-Region 2023 campaign with a second career All-Region nod in 2024. He started all 44 games at first base, slashing .367/.498/.563 with 47 runs, 10 doubles, seven homers, 44 RBIs, 12 steals, and a 1.061 OPS. Already a regular presence on the SU leaderboards, Sheeler caps the year slotting fifth in single-season walks (40). On the career leaderboards he currently ranks second in slugging (.664), third in on-base percentage (.502), tied for sixth in home runs (21), and sixth in sac flies (12).
Â
Brex, a graduate student from Howell, N.J., is an All-Region honoree for the first time after a strong showing at second base during his only year in the maroon and gold. He started 33 games and slashed .348/.445/.447 with 29 runs, six doubles, two triples, one home run, 22 RBIs, 13 steals, and an .892 OPS. Brex also led the team defensively with 102 assists and helped turn 18 double plays.
Â
Winebrenner, a junior from Frederick, Md., shored up the middle of the order in the SU lineup as the designated hitter for the season. He slashed .364/.473/.586 with 41 runs, 11 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 26 RBIs, seven steals, and a 1.059 OPS over 39 games (38 starts). Winebrenner was one of four qualifying Sea Gulls to post a thousand-plus OPS on the year.
Â
Kell, Petrucelli, Sheeler, Brex, and Winebrenner contributed mightily to Salisbury's success in 2024. The Sea Gulls finished the year 32-12 and won their fourth straight regional championship to become one of the final 16 teams standing in the NCAA Tournament.
