Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Nick Lewis

Men’s Soccer draws even with TCNJ to win Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team nearly earned a second consecutive victory to open the season, but The College of New Jersey Lions created late chaos that resulted in an 88th-minute tally and a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex. Despite the draw, Salisbury's results this weekend secured the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament title, with SU claiming the trophy for the first time since 2015.

The opening minutes were quiet as the sides totaled just two shots in the first 30 minutes, both taken by Salisbury. Joseph Sircus delivered a short cross to Gavin Miller, who took one touch before dotting the bottom corner to put the Sea Gulls in front, 1-0.

Salisbury's celebrations were short-lived as the Lions responded just 23 seconds later. Matias Hornos snuck a shot into the onion bag to return the tie, 1-1. The Sea Gulls added a pair of shots in the first half's final minutes, but the deadlock remained through 45 minutes.

After outshooting the Lions 6-1 in the first period, TCNJ outpaced the Sea Gulls 7-6 in the second half. The Sea Gulls earned a pair of quick corners to start the second, but the visitors turned away both opportunities.

In the 83rd minute, Alex Floyd willed the ball to the foot of Tristan Brannock while falling, leading to a go-ahead goal for the hosting Sea Gulls. TCNJ again had a quick response as Joseph Lucignano tucked a feed from Ernest Uche into the goal to even the score and seal the tie.
