Men’s Soccer stifles Keystone; four Sea Gulls score in win

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dominated its match against the Keystone College Giants, holding the visitors without a shot and punching in four goals to claim a 4-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

Salisbury (4-2-1) outshot Keystone 24-0 in the contest, firing three shots before earning a corner kick in the seventh minute. Dale Gordon's boot from the corner found Ethan Dolezal in the box to give the hosts an early lead, 1-0.

Keystone (1-7-0) endured a Sea Gull barrage over the ensuing 17 minutes, weathering six Sea Gull corners and three shots before Brady Young found Liam Pierce for a second SU score in the 24th minute, 2-0.

A trio of saves by the Giant net-watcher in the final minutes held the two-goal difference at the break. The Sea Gulls forced a pair of saves and tallied five shots in the opening 22 minutes before a feed from Eric Howard found Cooper Santos in the box for a head-in that extended the advantage to three.

SU's fourth strike came just under 10 minutes later when Adrian Gonzalez connected with David Peters for each Sea Gull's first points of 2024. The hosts fired four more shots in the closing minutes, but Keystone protected the four-goal margin.

GAME NOTES
  • Liam Pierce notched his second goal of the season and his third career strike.
  • Ethan Dolezal, Cooper Santos, and David Peters each collected their first goals in 2024. Dolezal's strike was his 12th as a Sea Gull, while Peters notched his third career score and Santos tallied his first SU goal.in
  • Brady Young, Dale Gordon, Adrian Gonzalez, and Eric Howard each earned assists in the win. Young's feed was his seventh career assist, while Gordon and Gonzalez each picked up their second career helpers and Howard snatched the first of his freshman season.
  • Clif Nehman improved to 2-1-0 between the pipes, logging nearly 78 minutes of action before Will Noble closed the final 12 minutes and change.
  • Salisbury is off to the program's best home start through seven matches (3-0-1) since the 2016 season when the team began the home slate with three consecutive wins.
  • The Sea Gulls held their opponent without a shot for the first time since Oct. 22, 2022 in an 8-0 win over Pratt. It is the third time the program has accomplished the feat since 2013.
The Sea Gulls are back on the island on Wednesday, Sept. 25th to host the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from the DiBartolo Soccer Complex.
