BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 22 Salisbury University football program rolled past No. 8 Johns Hopkins 41-13 Saturday afternoon on Homewood Field.
Salisbury (3-0) picks up its second-ranked win in a row which was heavily relied on shutting out Johns Hopkins (2-1) in the second half.
The Sea Gulls tied the game 3-3 after getting on the board from a 34-yard field goal from
Kollin Samaha. After falling down 10-3, reigning D3football.com running back of the week,
Ronald Clark, steamrolled in from four yards out to tie the game 10-10. Johns Hopkins tacked on a field goal before half to take a 13-10 lead into the break.
The second half was all Sea Gulls as they outscored Johns Hopkins 31-0 cruising to a top-10 victory. The party got started when
Gage Katzenell-Hall found
Dario Belizaire for a 63-yard touchdown pass on a two-play drive. The Sea Gull defense created two second-half turnovers which played a major part in the second-half dominance.
Michael Cox added two second-half touchdown runs with one being a 42-yard scamper. The game was capped off as
Frankie Giannetti forced a fumble on a sack that was picked up and returned 26 yards for a touchdown by
Ben Spiess.
Game Notes
- Cox ran for 80 yards with the two touchdowns
- Clark tallied 105 yards with the one touchdown
- Katzenell-Hall threw for 126 with the one touchdown
- Javon Freeman racked up six tackles with a forced fumble which was recovered by Malachi Baker who also had six tackles
- Spiess, who had the fumble recovery for a touchdown, totaled six tackles as well
- Carlton Johnson tallied two tackles for loss with a sack along with Giannetti
The Sea Gulls head into the bye week 3-0 with back-to-back ranked wins. They will be back in action when they host CNU on Oct. 5
th at 6 p.m. for the White Out and Community Day game. The game will also be followed by post-game fireworks.
