Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team held its own to open the fall tournament slate, putting in strong performances at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South/Southeast Regional Tournament over the weekend at the University of Mary Washington.
GAME NOTES
- Lily Muir earned a victory in the first round of the Blue 1 draw bracket, bouncing Audrey Wijono of Johns Hopkins [7-6 (8-6), 6-4] before falling to Washington & Lee's Haley Stoltz (6-3, 6-1) in the quarterfinals.
- Ridgley Lake rallied for a three-set victory in the first round of the Blue 3 bracket, dispatching Washington College's Gabriella Coutts (0-6, 6-3, 12-10). Lake took Lynchburg's Kayla Kosiorek to three sets in the quarterfinals before ultimately falling short (3-6, 6-2, 10-4).
- After dropping her first match of the Championship bracket, Gibelle Beaujon took down Meena Lennon of Virginia Wesleyan 8-1 in the draw's consolation bracket and earned a bye through the consolation round of 32 before falling in the round of 16.
- Elizabeth Coligan lost her first match in the Blue 2 draw but advanced to the consolation semifinals after a walkover and bye.
- Evelyn Whiteside also advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Blue 2 bracket, besting Amber Manspeaker of St. Mary's (Md.) 8-1 in the consolation qualifier and earning a bye through the quarterfinals.
- In doubles play, Lake and Katherine Raab reached the semifinals of the Blue bracket, besting duos from Roanoke (8-3) and Catholic [8-7 (7-3)] before bowing to a pair from Stevens (8-5).
- Muir and Whiteside made it to the consolation quarterfinals of the Championship draw via a draw and two withdrawals before bowing to a duo from Haverford (8-3).
- Gibelle Beaujon and Olivia Hall advanced to the Championship consolation round of 16 on a pair of byes before taking a loss to a Swarthmore twosome (8-2).
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 with their first official match of the 2024-25 season against Sweet Briar. First serve from the SU Indoor & Outdoor Tennis Center is set for 10 a.m.
