Early scores haunt Women’s Soccer in loss to York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision on the road against the York (Pa.) Spartans on Wednesday evening at Graham Field.

The Spartans (5-1-3) did all their damage in the first nine minutes, finding the onion bag twice in that span. York's Meg Kalthof found Gabby Jennings just 83 seconds into the contest, while Kalthof logged a solo finish just over seven minutes later to widen the lead to 2-0.

Salisbury (3-2-5) fired five shots throughout the rest of the period, but the Spartan backline held firm to keep the score at 2-0.

Hayle Foreman made a pair of saves to open the second half, while Kristen Ging forced a save by the opposing keeper in the 74th minute. Salisbury broke through in the 78th minute when Ashley Pantano linked with Lauren Chesney to turn a corner kick into a goal, bringing the match within one at 2-1.

The Sea Gulls went on to force three more Spartan saves, but the hosts withstood the late Salisbury swell to escape with the win.
