CHESTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team saw a three-game win streak ended on Saturday evening as the team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Widener Pride.
The Sea Gulls (5-3-1) applied early pressure in the match when
Tristan Brannock forced a save from the Widener net-minder just 73 seconds into the contest.
Brady Young followed with an on-target attempt in the sixth minute before recording another in the 14th.
The Pride (4-3-3) found a two-on-one breakaway in the 20th minute, but
Clif Nehman responded with a quick kick save to keep the score level. An infraction in the box 31 seconds late would award Widener a penalty kick that Christian Doyle scored to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
Salisbury accumulated three more shots in the first half, including an accurate look from
Ethan Dolezal that forced a save, but the score held at 1-0 through 45 minutes.
Shots were hard to come by early in the second half as the teams combined for just three shots through 15 minutes. Each side put a shot on target across the ensuing seven minutes, but neither attempt found the onion bag.
A struggle for possession followed for the better part of 20 minutes with neither team able to record a shot. The Pride took advantage of late desperation, finding a second score with just a second left in the match to set the final score at 2-0.
