Football overruns W&L in season opener

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University football program opened up the 2024 season with a 48-26 victory over Washington & Lee University Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium.

The Sea Gulls (1-0) jumped out early on the Generals (0-1) 21-0 in the first quarter. The lead was extended to 28-6 at the halftime break. Washington & Lee matched the Sea Gulls scoring in the second half but could never fully get back into the ball game.

Quarterback Gage Katzenell-Hall got the scoring started for Salisbury off an eight-yard scamper capping off an eight-play drive. The following offensive drive for the Sea Gulls Ki'Sean Gray-Dantzler powered in from one-yard out giving Salisbury a 14-0 lead.

With time dwindling in the first quarter, Katnenell-Hall found Micah Brubaker on a hitch route that Brubaker turned into an 89-yard touchdown. Brubaker totaled five catches for 206 yards and the touchdown.

Not even five minutes into the second quarter the offense created another explosive play as Clark busted an 80-yard run giving the Sea Gulls a 28-0 lead. More explosive plays continued in the second half as Dario Belizaire added a 34-yard touchdown along with a 69-yard touchdown.
