Women’s Soccer rolls past Methodist to begin SU Classic

SALISBURY, Md. – Junior forward Ashley Pantano headlined a strong offensive day for the Salisbury University women's soccer team, opening the 2024 Salisbury University Classic with a 4-1 win over Methodist on Saturday afternoon at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

Pantano's first strike came in the 17th minute when a through-ball from the foot of Zakiyyah McMillan snuck through to the Farmingdale, N.Y. native's foot on the edge of the box before a corner deposit gave Salisbury an early advantage, 1-0.

Her second tally came approximately 12 minutes later as Ava Wheeler flicked a feed to Pantano in the box, who stopped on a dime before planting and pushing a shot past the Monarch net-minder to extend the lead to a pair.

Plenty of faces appeared for the Sea Gulls, including fellow Sea Gull goal-scorers Sidney Ziegler and Kyra Veenema who each earned their first career goals in the victory.

Methodist snuck a lone look past Hayle Foreman in the 82nd minute to break the clean sheet, but Foreman made four saves to highlight an otherwise stout defensive showing.
