GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Sea Gull women's basketball program picked up a 63-54 road victory over Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday night using strong shooting and a dominant first half to cruise to victory.
Salisbury (9-9) hit seven threes in the first quarter of action on 10 attempts while shooting a combined 71 percent from the floor. The Sea Gull offense went hand and hand with the defense holding Gwynedd Mercy (5-14) to just 31 percent shooting from the field. SU held a 27-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Abby Plaugher shot four of five from three-point range with all four makes coming in the first quarter. Plaugher finished the game with 15 points, three rebounds, and two steals.
The momentum stayed in the favor of the Sea Gulls in the second quarter as the hot shooting continued. Salisbury shot 67 percent from the floor in the second while knocking down three more three-pointers. SU led 48-26 at the halftime break.
Gwynedd Mercy outscored Salisbury 28-15 in the second half but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Nicole Miller led all scorers with 18 points while shooting six of seven from downtown. Five of her three-pointers came in the first half.
