FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program used a strong second-half performance to soar past Mary Washington on the road Saturday afternoon inside Ron Rosner Arena.
Mary Washington (8-14) jumped out early on the Sea Gulls (10-9) taking a 6-0 lead. SU responded by going on a 9-2 scoring run taking a 9-8 lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. A late three-pointer in the quarter gave the Eagles a 13-9 advantage heading into the second quarter of action.
This momentum carried into the second for the Eagles, who outscored SU 14-4 and led 27-13 at the halftime break. The second half was all Salisbury. The Eagles scored four points in the first three minutes of the third quarter and would only go on to score one more basket the entire quarter.
The Sea Gulls outscored the Eagles 16-6 for the quarter and only trailed 33-29 heading into the final quarter. The SU offense stayed hot starting the fourth off with 10 straight points with the first eight all coming from
Nicole Miller. SU won the fourth quarter by 10 points earning a six-point victory.
Miller ended the game with 14 points and three rebounds.
Abby Plaugher tallied a game-high 20 points and a team-high eight rebounds while also adding three assists and one steal.
