SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 5 Salisbury University football program picked up a 38-24 Homecoming win over Kean University Saturday afternoon in front of a record-breaking crowd (6,918) inside Sea Gull Stadium.
Kean (1-4, 0-2 NJAC) won the coin toss and elected to receive. They followed that up with an 11-play touchdown drive to open up the scoring. Salisbury (5-0, 2-0 NJAC) had an opposite drive, scoring on the first play with
SyRus McGowan breaking off a 62-yard touchdown run to even things up 7-7. This would be the only time the Sea Gulls would trail all game.
The teams headed into the second quarter knotted up 7-7. Just two minutes into the second quarter of action,
Andre Matthews capped off a seven-play drive with a five-yard touchdown run, giving SU a 14-7 lead. Both teams added scores late in the first half.
Mason Fisher scampered in from five yards out while the Cougars posted an eight-play drive for a score with five seconds left before halftime. The Sea Gulls led 21-14 at the half.
SU opened the second half with an eight-play drive and extended the lead 28-14 with a
Dario Belizaire six-yard touchdown run. Kean was able to answer to pull back within a touchdown, but once again, McGowan broke off another long run for a one-play touchdown drive. This time, McGowan scored from 71 yards out.
After a Cougar's field goal, SU led 35-14 heading into the final quarter of action.
Tucker Smack tacked on a 37-yard field goal to start the fourth, giving the Sea Gulls the 38-24 lead and helping them secure the 2025 Homecoming victory.
Game Notes
- McGowan finished with 159 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Belizaire posted 98 yards with his touchdown, while Fisher finished with 89 yards along with the touchdown.
- SU posted 440 yards of total offense while Kean tallied 368.

Jimmy Celentano led the Sea Gull defense with eight tackles and one and a half tackles for loss.

Carter Sollenberger, and
Colin Wargo all posted seven tackles each.

Salisbury is back in action when they travel to Montclair State on Oct. 18th for another NJAC matchup. Kickoff from Montclair, N.J. is set for noon.
