SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 6 Salisbury University football program cruised past The College of New Jersey 55-10 Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium for the 2025 home opener and Gold Rush weekend. The Sea Gulls have moved to 4-0 and 1-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.
SU began with the ball in front of the home crowd and did not disappoint, posting a 10-play drive for an opening score. The offense converted on two fourth-down conversions on the drive, which was capped off by
SyRus McGowan scampering in from nine yards out for the score.
The Sea Gull defense immediately fed off the home crowd's energy and forced a three-and-out from the Lions (3-1). Once again, the Gulls drove right down the field in eight plays for another score, this time from
Andre Matthews on the goal line. Salisbury led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After a TCNJ field goal, the Sea Gulls responded with a
Darrell Walter rushing touchdown, extending the lead 19-13. After the three-and-out for the Lions, the snap from the punt was muffed, resulting in the Sea Gulls gaining possession on the TCNJ three-yard line. Walter barged in again from three yards out, giving SU a 27-3 lead with nine minutes remaining before the halftime break.
The Sea Gulls were able to tack on two more scores before the halftime break. McGowan earned a rushing touchdown while also finding
Mason Fisher for a 46-yard touchdown throw in which Fisher shrugged off multiple Lion defenders. The Gulls were ahead 41-3 at the halftime break. Fisher finished with 119 yards on just two catches.
Matthew Sims kept the offense rolling in the second half for SU, finding
