Women’s Basketball outlasts Waynesburg in Coaches vs Cancer Classic

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball program outlasted Waynesburg University 76-70 Saturday afternoon inside Wolf Gymnasium on the final day of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by York College (Pa.).

Both teams shot 44 percent from the floor in the first quarter of action as the Yellow Jackets earned a 23-20 lead at the end of the quarter. The Sea Gulls were able to win the second quarter 21-20, heading into the halftime break trailing by two.

Both teams shot 15-34 from the floor in the first half during the back-and-forth battle. The third quarter proved to be the difference for Salisbury, outscoring Waynesburg 15-7 and earning a six-point lead heading into the final quarter of action.

The Sea Gulls were able to fend off the late run from the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Nicole Miller and Keturah Stewart both tallied 17 points and four rebounds, while Miller also added four assists. Kayla Nieberlein, who earned All-Tournament Team, posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

  • Abby Plaugher scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
  • Jen Juhring posted 11 rebounds with six points and three assists.
  • Kisa Lilly tallied four rebounds, three assists, and two points.
  • SU shot 35 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.
  • SU won the rebound battle 53-43.
The Sea Gulls are back inside Maggs Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 19th, when they host Penn State Abington at 6 p.m.
