PITMAN, N.J. – The No. 13 Salisbury University football program saw 17 student-athletes earn New Jersey Athletic Conference honors. The Sea Gulls posted five on the First-Team, 10 on the Second-Team, and two earned Honorable Mention.
Dario Belizaire, Darrell Walter, Chris Clarke, Noah Christenson, and
Mason Fisher earned First-Team honors.
SyRus McGowan, Micah Brubaker, Daniel Clark, Brian Irving, Amiri Edwards, Oliver Morgan, Jimmy Celentano, Andrew Gioia, Kilo Mack, and
Jadyn Thomas earned Second-Team honors, while
Jayson Gary and
Patrick Sheil were named Honorable Mention.
Belizaire, the junior from Cambridge, Md., has posted his second consecutive season with 1,000 all-purpose yards. Through the air, he has tallied 551 yards on just 20 catches, which is good enough for 27 yards per reception, along with eight touchdowns. On the ground, he has tallied three touchdowns with 467 yards on 47 carries, which is 10 yards per carry. Walter, the junior from Glen Burnie, Md., is coming off a four-touchdown game against Vermont State University Castleton. He has 13 touchdowns on the year with 652 yards and seven yards per carry.
Clarke, the senior from Ridgely, Md., and Irving, the senior from Owings, Md., have played a pivotal role on the front line for the Sea Gulls. The SU offense boasts the nation's 4th-best rushing attack with 3,116 yards. They lead the country in rushing touchdowns with 50 and are second in yards per carry with 7.31. The Sea Gulls lead the nation in total touchdowns with 68 and are 9th in yards per game with 500.
On the special teams side, Christenson, the senior from Alexandria, Va., tallied an NJAC best average punt of 43.2 yards with seven landing inside the 20 and three going for 50 plus yards. Fisher, the junior from Westminster, Md., also led the NJAC in kick return average at 26.7 yards for a total of 276 yards on just 10 attempts. Thomas, the senior from Waldorf, Md., tallied 7.5 yards per punt return and 14.3 yards per game.
McGowan, the sophomore from Chestertown, Md. and reigning NJAC Rookie of the Year, posted 17 passing touchdowns and 1,628 yards. On the ground, he posted 507 yards and eight touchdowns. Brubaker, the senior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Clark, the senior from District Heights, Md., were the top two targets outside for SU. Brubaker tallied 436 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 catches, which was good enough for 22 yards per catch. Clark posted 416 yards with four touchdowns on 18 catches, good enough for 23 yards per reception.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Sea Gulls posted seven All-Conference honors. Edwards, the senior from Capital Heights, Md., posted three sacks, five and a half tackles for loss, and 19 total tackles, along with a forced fumble. Fellow defensive lineman, Morgan, the senior from Hereford, Md., tallied four and a half sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 30 total tackles, along with a blocked field goal.
Celentano, the graduate student from Jackson, N.J., led the Sea Gulls with 49 total tackles, along with six tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one interception, and three pass breakups. Mack, the senior from Belcamp, Md., led the Sea Gulls with 12 pass breakups, along with one fumble recovery, two tackles for loss, and 43 total tackles. Gioia, the senior from Ridgewood, N.J., posted one interception, four pass breakups, two tackles for loss, and 35 total tackles.
Gary, the senior from Louden County, Va., posted 41 tackles, six and a half tackles for loss, three and a half sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Sheil, the junior from Fairfax Station, Va., tallied 45 tackles, one and a half tackles for loss, three interceptions to lead the team, and five pass breakups
Following a first-round bye, SU will begin NCAA Tournament play by hosting No. 15 Endicott in the second round on Saturday, Nov. 29. Kickoff from Sea Gull Stadium is locked in for 12 p.m.
