Second half surge pushes Women's Basketball past Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program traveled to Marymount University and picked up a 72-65 win Saturday afternoon inside Converse Family Fieldhouse. The Sea Gulls used a strong second half to secure the victory. 

The Sea Gull (6-3) offense struggled to get going in the first quarter, just shooting 31 percent from the field. The Saints (2-5) led 15-11 heading into the second quarter of action. Marymount shot above 60 percent in the first half, which helped them earn a six-point lead heading into halftime. 

The SU offense got rolling in the second quarter, shooting nearly 50 percent, which they were able to build on in the second half. The game proved to be a tale of two halves for the teams. The offensive momentum carried into the second half for the Sea Gulls, which went hand and hand with their defense. Salisbury outscored Marymount 19-15 in the third and headed into the fourth trailing by two. 

Marymount shot under 50 percent in the second half while the ramped it up as the game went on. SU shot 61 percent from the floor in the final quarter of action, outscoring the Saints by nine and securing the road victory. 

Salisbury closed the final three minutes of the ball game on a 10-1 run. Nicole Miller led the Sea Gulls with 17 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Abby Plaugher scored 12 points with a team-high eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. 

Game Notes
- Kayla Nieberlein posted 14 points, and Keturah Stewart tallied 11 to round out the double-digit scoring for the Sea Gulls.
- Jen Juhring scored six points with five rebounds and two steals. 
- The SU defense posted 16 steals and forced 23 turnovers from the Saints. They also held Marymount to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range.
- Salisbury scored 22 points off turnovers and 10 second-chance points.

Salisbury is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 10th, when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan University at 6 p.m.
