Women's Basketball falls against Swarthmore on Senior Day

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program fell 58-52 against Swarthmore College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Sea Gulls honored seniors Tori Rumbaugh and Alex Bull while also recognizing senior team manager Allison Volpe.

Salisbury came out firing with Abby Plaugher hitting back-to-back threes giving the Sea Gulls an early 6-2 advantage. Swarthmore would go on a 10-5 run to finish the quarter giving SU a one-point lead heading into the second quarter of action. 

Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter combining for only 13 points. Swarthmore led 22-20 at the halftime break. The third quarter started with a 9-2 run by the Garnet edging their lead up to nine. The Sea Gulls would answer with an 11-4 run of their own cutting the deficit to five heading into the fourth quarter. 

Once again the Garnet went on a scoring run to start the quarter out scoring SU 10-0 in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter working the lead up to 15. The Sea Gulls did not go down without a fight. A 14-0 run down the stretch from the Sea Gulls pulled the game within two points after an and-one three-pointer from Plaugher. The run was not enough as on the following possession Swarthmore hit an and-one layup to seal the game. 

Plaugher led the team in scoring with 18 points while also grabbing eight rebounds and three steals. Bull posted 10 points with five rebounds while Rumbaugh tallied eight rebounds, four assists, and two points. 

Game Notes
- Nicole Miller totaled 14 points and three rebounds.
- Both teams tallied 13 turnovers.
- SU shot 38 percent from three while holding Swarthmore to just 15 percent from behind the arc.
- The Garnet's bench outscored SU 35-4. 

The Sea Gulls are back in action at Shenandoah on Monday with game time set for 6 p.m.
