ASHLAND, Va. – The Salisbury University women's basketball program fell 67-50 on the road against No. 19 Randolph-Macon Thursday night inside Crenshaw Gym.
The Sea Gulls (10-12) got out to a quick start thanks to sophomore
Abby Plaugher who scored the first two baskets for SU earning an early lead. The back-and-forth first quarter saw seven lead changes before the Yellow Jackets (21-1) ended the quarter on a 10-4 run earning a 21-15 advantage heading into the second quarter of action.
Both offenses struggled to get going in the second quarter scoring only 20 points combined. Salisbury shot 25 percent from the floor in the quarter while Randolph-Macon posted a 27 percent shooting percentage. The Sea Gulls trailed by 10 at the halftime break.
Randolph-Macon opened the game up in the third quarter outscoring SU 21-9. The offensive struggles continued for the Sea Gulls as they shot 17 percent from the floor while the Yellow Jackets shot 63 percent.
The 22-point defect was too much for SU to overcome in the fourth. Plaugher ended with a game-high 20 points while also adding five rebounds.
Game Notes
- Tori Rumbaugh posted nine points and two assists.
- Kisa Lilly tallied four points, three steals, and two assists while fellow freshman Ella Inacio scored five.
- Each team tallied 16 second-chance points but the Yellow Jackets were able to outscore the Sea Gulls 34-16 in the paint.
After a two-game road trip, the Sea Gulls are back at home to take on Virginia Wesleyan University on Monday, Feb. 17
th at 6 p.m. inside Maggs Gymnasium.
