Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Nick Lewis

Frink’s SU-high not enough for Men’s Basketball in loss to UMW

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team gave the Eagles of Mary Washington a late scare but ultimately dropped its Tuesday evening tilt by a 70-65 final inside Maggs Gymnasium.

The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) foes jostled for position in the early minutes, with UMW scoring eight of the first 12 points before a 9-2 run by the Sea Gulls (15-9) headlined by Calvin Thomas put SU ahead by three through seven minutes and change, 13-10.

The Eagles (11-13) responded with nine of the next 11 to retake a four-point edge, a run that was quickly counteracted by a pair of makes from range by Aidan Camper and Jayden Johnson to give SU a 23-21 lead. UMW scored 13 straight over the ensuing six minutes to ultimately close the half on a 15-4 run and lead by nine, 36-27.

UMW controlled the opening four minutes of the second stanza, scoring 14 of 20 to open a 50-33 lead at the under-16. Kedrick Frink went to work from there, netting seven straight before a second trey from Johnson cut the lead to 11 with just over 10 minutes left.

The Eagles fended off the Sea Gulls for over seven minutes, stacking 16 points against SU's 11, before the late surge began. Threes from Reed Rebstock and Camper combined with seven points at the stripe helped SU mount a furious 13-1 rally in the final three minutes, but the Eagles would escape Maggs Gym with a 70-65 win.
