SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball program wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season dropping a tight game 64-57 against No. 8 Christopher Newport University Friday night inside Maggs Gymnasium.
Salisbury (11-13) soared from the jump earning a 14-4 lead in the first quarter. The Captains (24-1) weathered the storm ending the quarter on a 5-0 run giving the Sea Gulls a 14-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter of action. CNU was held to just 10 percent from three in the quarter and 19 percent from the field.
CNU carried that momentum into the second, outscoring SU 13-8, giving the teams a tie-ball game of 22-22 heading into the halftime break.
In a game that had 20 lead changes the third quarter was the tightest of them all. The fast-paced third quarter ended 22-22 with the teams tied and headed into the final quarter of action.
Nicole Miller, who set a career-high with 28 points, scored 14 of those in the third.
Miller added a quick five in the fourth giving the Sea Gulls a two-point advantage at one point with just under five minutes remaining in the ball game. SU ran out of gas down the stretch as CNU ended the game on a 9-2 run shutting down any upset chance from the Sea Gulls.
Game Notes
- Abby Plaugher tallied 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
- Kisa Lilly totaled six points and six rebounds.
- Jen Juhring and Kayla Nieberlein combined for 13 rebounds and six points.
- SU held the Captains to just 27 percent from the three-point line while posting a 38 percent mark themselves.
- CNU grabbed 23 offensive rebounds compared to just eight for SU.
The Sea Gulls finished the regular season 11-13 and will now head to Milwaukee, Wis. for the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament starting on Friday, Feb. 28
th.
