No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse fends off Grove City in defensive battle at UA Stadium

BALTIMORE, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team endured a defensive bout at UA Stadium on the campus of Under Armour's Global Headquarters at Baltimore Peninsula, slugging out an 8-6 win over Grove City on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (2-0) and Wolverines (0-1) both struggled to find their footing in the early minutes, with the sides combining for three penalties and a pair of turnovers across the opening nine minutes. A Nicholas Ransom save and a successful clear led to Salisbury's first goal of the morning, netted by Brice Bromwell on a feed from Michael Leahy.

Five more turnovers and four more penalties between the foes locked the score at 1-0 through 15 minutes. The Sea Gull offense produced a trio of goals in the second quarter, beginning when Chris Wong linked with Ryan Della for a man-up strike with just under 10 minutes left in the half.

Wong would find the back of the net on an assist from Connor Herraiz less than a minute later before turning a Bromwell find into paydirt with just over five minutes remaining, giving SU a 4-0 advantage. GCC netted its first goal of the 2025 campaign with 2:48 left, setting the halftime score at 4-1.

The third quarter mimicked the first, beginning with eight scoreless minutes and six combined caused turnovers between the foes. The Wolverines narrowed the margin with two goals in under two minutes, bringing the matchup within one at 4-3 with under 20 minutes to play.

Riley Strub broke through late in the matchup, scoring a find from Bromwell inside the third stanza's final minute before notching his second score less than four minutes into the fourth on a feed from Ty Keaton. After a Wolverine tally, Strub and Wong (assisted by Leahy) tied SU's largest lead of the day at 8-4 with under five minutes left.

GCC added two quick goals to bring the duel back within a pair, but a clutch interception by John DeFazio inside the final three minutes sealed the 8-6 final score.
