SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team extended its season-opening winning streak to eight games, easing past the Catholic Cardinals 22-5 on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls stormed out of the gate with the first seven goals, including the first two straight from
Riley Strub and an early hat trick from
Brice Bromwell. The Cardinals finally broke the run at the 5:22 mark, but
Ryan Della deposited one into the net just outside the final minute to make it an 8-1 margin after the first quarter.
Della struck again for the first marker of the second, opening up a string of seven straight across nearly 14 minutes in the period.
Trent Lucovich notched SU's final goal of the run, and the Sea Gulls took a 15-2 advantage into the half.
Strub and
Lucas Ingley each found the twine in the third, and
Joey Halloran's strike opened a fourth quarter that saw SU hit the 20 mark and empty the bench on the way to a final margin of 22-5.
GAME NOTES
- Brice Bromwell notched four goals to lead the Sea Gulls, including three straight early in the first quarter.
- Riley Strub netted three goals with one assist.
- Chris Wong (three goals, two assists) and Connor Herraiz (two goals, three assists) each contributed five points.
- Joey Halloran powered home two goals with one assist.
- Blake Malamphy dominated the dot, winning 16-of-19 faceoffs and leading SU with a career-high 16 ground balls.
- Charles Fritchman won six faceoffs with five ground balls.
- Bromwell and Seamus Johnston each caused two turnovers.
- Nicholas Ransom (8-0) upped his career record in goal to 48-1, stopping four shots in the first half. Matt Sentowski, Alex Swartz, and Aidan O'Connor handled goalkeeping duties in the second half, with Sentowski logging a trio of saves in relief.
- 17 different Sea Gulls etched their name in the point column during the Saturday stroll.
- The Sea Gulls have now won 62 consecutive home contests in the regular season dating back to the 2019 campaign.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up a four-game homestand on Tuesday against 18th-ranked Denison. Opening faceoff from Sea Gull Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
