CLEVELAND – With eight teams making contributions through the 2024-25 athletics calendar, Salisbury University
placed 37th in the final Learfield Directors' Cup standings for NCAA Division III, as revealed by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) last week.
The Sea Gulls racked up 482 points across the fall, winter, and spring athletics seasons, with teams receiving points based on their finish at the NCAA Championships. The No. 37 ranking, which was
tops among four Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) teams earn recognition, places SU in the top 40 for the third straight year.
In addition to the
181 points earned in the fall by Salisbury's field hockey (83), football (73), and volleyball (25) teams, the Sea Gulls garnered 36 points from the winter slate and 265 points from their spring sports. SU women's swimming reeled in 36 points by virtue of its 35th-place finish at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, marking the first time in program history the team has contributed to the Directors' Cup effort.
The spring saw four teams make deep runs into their respective NCAA Tournaments to earn Directors' Cup points. Women's lacrosse led the way with 73 points after reaching the national quarterfinals; men's lacrosse captured 64 points by advancing to the third round; and baseball and softball also earned 64 points apiece via appearances in the NCAA Super Regionals.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and
USA Today. Salisbury has perennially been among the nation's top performers, placing in the top 10 percent of Division III teams 22 times in the 28 seasons with a final rankings release since 1995-96.
