ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team drew first blood against the University of Lynchburg Hornets, but an 81st-minute equalizer gave the Sea Gulls a 1-1 result in Saturday evening's contest at the Seahawk Classic inside Jaime L. Roberts Stadium
The Sea Gulls were able to get the Hornets on their back heels and drew a corner kick in the 17th minute.
Kai Lindsay sent in a rainbow that
Liam Pierce elevated towards and delivered a header that trickled its way across the goal line to give the Gulls the advantage.
The Hornets countered with multiple tries at goal in the 32
nd minute that
Nate Jones denied. Both teams were held at bay following that, with the maroon and gold doubling up in shots going into the half, 8-4.
Lynchburg flipped the script in the second half and outshot the Sea Gulls 7-3. With less than nine minutes remaining, a strike from outside the box by Cristobal Massanet leveled the score.
Clif Nehman made one final save in the 85th minute to keep the game even.

The Sea Gulls round out the Seahawk Classic on Sunday when they face off against the Washington College Shoremen. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
