Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Andrew Barbieri

Men’s Basketball storms back to slip by Delmarva rival Washington (Md.)

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team outpaced the Washington College Shoremen 42-34 to rally to a 72-71 victory on Monday evening inside Maggs Gym. With the win, the Sea Gulls (8-7) improved to 23-10 all-time against Washington (Md.).

The Shoremen (10-2) drew first blood, but Churchill Bounds attacked the rim for a two-handed slam moments later. Washington (Md.) countered with three buckets from distance in the following minutes to build up a 17-9 lead.

Bounds misfired on a layup; however, Tyler Ball cleaned up the glass and backed it out to Aidan Camper for three to spark a 9-0 Salisbury run that was capped off by Bounds in the paint to take the lead with 9:08 left in the first half.

Washington (Md.) dominated the next eight minutes of play by outscoring the Sea Gulls 20-8 and forcing six Salisbury errors. With six seconds in the first, Camper converted on the four-point play to make 37-30 at halftime.

Camper drilled two more triples when play resumed to bring SU within four. Ball followed suit minutes later, but the Shoremen answered with five straight points. After a defensive stand leading to a Leon Elung steal, Ball buried another three on the wing, then assisted Elung in the paint. Bounds made two free throws and a layup to get within a possession briefly before Nolan Waldon knocked down a shot from beyond the arc.

Bounds banked in four layups in just under three minutes of play to get the Gulls ahead 63-62 with 4:16 remaining in the contest. Joey Lutz padded the advantage from distance to make it a four-point game heading into the final media timeout.

Washington (Md.) knotted up the score with under a minute to go at 68. After a timeout, Elung muscled home a layup, and the Sea Gulls came up with a stop on the other end of the floor, leading to Camper getting fouled. With Salisbury in the bonus, Camper sank both free throws to put the game out of reach.
