Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Andrew Barbieri

Blankensop’s brace fuels No. 21 Men’s Soccer to Senior Day win over St. Mary’s (Md.)

SALISBURY, Md. – The 21st ranked Salisbury men's soccer notched its 10th victory of the year by powering past in-state rival St. Mary's (Md.), 2-1 on Saturday evening inside the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Complex.

Before the game, the program honored its 11 senior team members: Nate Jones, Will Noble, Gabe Glikin, Peter Beil, Dale Gordon, Jack Schwarz, Tanner Calzado, Josh Williamson, Liam Pierce, Jake Trama and Cooper Santos.

The Sea Gulls (10-1-2) drew first blood in the 34th minute, as Noah Blankensop wrestled for possession with Seahawk (5-8-0) defenders. Eventually, the sophomore found a window to smash a left-footed shot into the nylon.

SU led the contest 8-3 in shots at the breather, with the Gulls holding a 2-0 edge in shots on target.

Salisbury searched for extra cushion, as Gordon missed the net moments after the second half began. Midway through the frame, St. Mary's converted during a counter push to level the ledger.

The Seahawks flirted with taking the lead five minutes later, but Jones ranged to his left to turn aside Tanner Bruce.

The deciding tally came in the 86th minute after Conor Moran delivered a free kick to David Brunetti, then off the head of Blankensop to lift the Sea Gulls to triumph.

GAME NOTES The Sea Gulls hit the road to face Ursinus on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
