FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury men's soccer team hit paydirt twice in the second stanza to down the University of Mary Washington Eagles, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Ray Gordon Field.
The Eagles (5-4-1) generated the first look of the afternoon in the fourth minute that was rejected by
Clif Nehman.
Zach Johnson inserted the Sea Gulls (8-1-2) into the shot column roughly 10 minutes later, which UMW's Asim Zaine turned aside.
Salisbury outshot UMW during the first segment, 6-4; however, Nehman was tested three times during the frame and answered the bell each time.
SU only ramped up the pressure, outshooting Mary Washington 13-4 in the second half.
Tanner Calzado broke through in the 63rd minute by settling a header from an Eagle defender and sneaking a left-footed shot into the onion bag.
The Maroon and Gold sealed the deal in the 82nd minute when
Noah Blankensop sent a pass to
Hayden Schultz, whose shot was saved, but
Harry Vasilios cleaned up the rebound to put the match out of reach.
