Men’s Soccer fends off No. 22 Johns Hopkins in home upset

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury men's soccer program used a pair of tallies to fuel a 2-1 victory over No. 22 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon inside the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.

Both sides were held shot less in the first 16 minutes until Dale Gordon missed high, sparking the Sea Gulls (9-1-2) to take control of the opening frame. After an abundance of pressure on the Blue Jays' (7-3-2) defense, Noah Blankensop sent a throw-in from the near sideline onto the head of Brogan Eastlack on the back post to open the scoring in the 37th minute.

Salisbury led 6-0 in the shot department and earned five corner kicks compared to JHU's zero at the end of the first half.

The Sea Gulls consolidated their advantage almost immediately at the beginning of the second stanza. Dale Gordon won a ball on the wing and sent a pass into the box for David Brunetti, who swiveled to face the goal and blast a right-footed rocket into the onion bag.

Hopkins placed their first shot on target in the 74th minute, but Clif Nehman came out of his goal to make a pivotal stop. The Blue Jays would break through courtesy of Dylan Ellis minutes later, but the Maroon and Gold hung on in the final minutes.
