Men’s Basketball clipped at No. 8 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team fell to the eighth-ranked Mary Washington Eagles 88-72 in Wednesday night's bout inside the William M. Anderson Center.

The Sea Gulls (10-13) got the upper hand to start the contest, as Jamison Graves tallied the first five points of the affair. The Eagles (20-3) countered with 18 of the next 21 points to lead 18-8 after six minutes of play.

The Sea Gulls cut the lead in half in the following minutes. Aidan Camper came off the bench and rattled home a deep two-pointer, then Graves completed an and-one to cut the deficit to five. Mary Washington regained control by outscoring SU by four in the following minute to hold a steady 41-32 lead heading into the half.

With the hosts ahead 56-44 in the second stanza, Graves hit a layup plus a foul to get SU within nine. Graves eclipsed the 20-point mark minutes later with a triple, then hit a teardrop floater to make it 61-54.

Mary Washington fended off the Sea Gulls' effort to climb back into the contest by elevating their lead to 13, causing a Salisbury timeout. The Maroon and Gold refused to stay down as Daniel Oyediran completed a three-point play out of the stoppage.

While the Sea Gulls would stay within striking distance, the Eagles thwarted SU in the waning minutes of the contest.
